The COVID-19 crisis has had a deep impact on economies and energy transition prospects in Sub-Saharan Africa. The current period of high inflation and high energy prices have exacerbated existing challenges and put the energy trilemma at the center of a just energy transition in the region. The conundrum of increasing energy access, improving security of supply, protecting affordability, and achieving environmental sustainability all at once necessitate more strategic thinking about the exact roles of governments, companies and international financial institutions.
