Non-Resident Fellow
Dr. Shangyou Nie is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University SIPA, focused on international energy issues related to companies and China.
Dr. Nie is a veteran in the energy industry. He has 27 years of experience working for two major international oil companies (Shell and Amoco – later acquired by bp) as well as IHS Energy (now part of S&P Global). He served as Team Lead for Upstream Business Intelligence at Shell and was a strategy and commercial advisor for Shell’s upstream business development teams, working extensively in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. He was also the Supply Work Stream coordinator for joint research between Shell and China’s Development Research Center on China’s long-term gas strategy and energy transition.
Dr. Nie obtained his PhD in Geophysics from the University of Chicago, MBA from Rice University, and BS from Peking University.
