Energy storage is quickly becoming core infrastructure for the clean energy transition. As cities electrify buildings and transportation, face rising energy demand, and prepare for more frequent extreme weather, batteries, virtual power plants, distributed solar, and smarter grid infrastructure will be essential to keeping the grid reliable, affordable, and resilient.
The Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University SIPA’s Women in Energy initiative, and Unified Ground PBC are hosting an event that will bring together leaders from industry, government, finance, labor, academia, and community organizations to explore two connected questions: What economic opportunities and jobs are emerging as energy storage becomes central to the future grid? And how can storage be developed in ways that advance equity, affordability, community resilience, and shared economic benefit?
The evening will feature two moderated panels followed by a networking reception. The first panel will focus on the future of the grid, the storage market, project finance, and emerging career pathways. The second will explore community-owned energy infrastructure, resilience hubs, public assets, affordability, environmental justice, and what it will take to ensure communities benefit from—and help shape—the storage transition.
