Dr. Varun Sivaram Named a Friend of COP for COP26

Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy announced today that Senior Research Scholar Dr. Varun Sivaram has been named a “Friend of COP,” one of 25 experts selected to advise the UK Government and inspire climate action ahead of COP26, the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference to be hosted November 2021 in Glasgow.

The annual United Nations Climate Change conference hosts the formal meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP), where the 197 member countries discuss global action to address climate change. COP26 was initially scheduled for November 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 25 Friends of COP bring expertise from countries across six continents to advise the UK Government and inspire action from their sectors ahead of the conference.

Dr. Sivaram is a physicist, bestselling author and clean energy technology expert with experience spanning the corporate, public and academic sectors, and is nationally recognized for his accomplishments in renewable energy innovation. At the Center, he leads research focused on global energy innovation.
