The economic crisis brought on by COVID-19 is the largest since the great depression of the 1930s and is prompting governments around the world to develop recovery packages on a scale that will shape infrastructure and industries for decades to come. These packages offer a significant opportunity to advance national and global objectives for long-term growth and sustainable development. If well designed, the parts of these packages focused on the energy sector have the potential to deliver both jobs and growth, as well as an energy system that is cleaner, more secure, resilient and cost-effective. This IEA World Energy Outlook special report analyses energy-related measures that could be included in recovery plans and quantifies their implications for jobs, emissions and energy sector resilience. It proposes a variety of measures that could provide a major boost to economies, generate millions of new jobs, make the energy sector more resilient, and provide a pathway towards achieving long-term climate and sustainable development objectives. The Center on Global Energy Policy will host Dr. Fatih Birol, IEA’s Executive Director, and Laura Cozzi, IEA’s Chief Energy Modeller, for a presentation of key findings from the World Energy Outlook Special Report on Sustainable Recovery. Following the presentation, they will take part in a discussion with Joe Aldy, Professor of the Practice of Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School, and Dr. Noah Kaufman, CGEP Research Scholar, moderated by Jason Bordoff, CGEP Founding Director. — Advance registration is required.
