Please join the Center on Global Energy Policy for a presentation and discussion on Statoil?s Energy Perspectives 2017 Edition with Eirik Waerness, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist at Statoil. After Mr. Waerness’ presentation, we will move into a moderated discussion where he will joined by CGEP Director Jason Bordoff and Geoff Heal, Donald C. Waite III Professor of Social Enterprise at Columbia University’s School of Business. Energy Perspectives is published each year by Statoil. The 2017 report contains three different scenarios for the global macroeconomic and energy market development, for the first time extending the time horizon to 2050: Reform, which takes as a starting point the national climate targets of the Paris agreement (COP21), and puts gradually more weight on market-driven developments in global energy markets, with policies playing a supportive role. Renewal, which is a very ambitious back-casted scenario delivering a trajectory for emissions consistent with the 2-degree target. Rivalry, which is impacted by geopolitical conflict and larger differences in regional developments, both with regard to economic development and transformation of the energy systems.
