Gwynne Taraska is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University. She is an expert in energy and climate policy, diplomacy, and geopolitics.
Dr. Taraska was Managing Director for Clean Energy in the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate in the U.S. Department of State, where she led multilateral efforts on issues including industrial decarbonization, renewable energy, maritime decarbonization, and nuclear energy. She previously was Senior Advisor for International Affairs in the U.S. Department of Energy and Senior Advisor to John F. Kerry and Managing Director for Cross-Cutting Climate Issues in the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.
Previously, Dr. Taraska held roles including Director of International Climate Policy at the Center for American Progress, Director of Policy and Research at Climate Advisers, and Director of Climate Policy at Ocean Conservancy. Her work focused on North American climate cooperation, ocean-climate diplomacy, U.S. nonfederal climate diplomacy, international climate finance, and the Paris Agreement.
Dr. Taraska has a BA from Reed College and a PhD from the University of Washington.
