Vice Chairman, IHS Markit
Daniel Yergin is vice chairman of IHS Markit, a leading information and advisory firm with 16,000 employees worldwide, and is chairman of IHS Markit’s CERAWeek conference.
Dr. Yergin is the author of The New Map: Energy, Climate and the Clash of NationsThe Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil Money and Power, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, was a number one New York Times bestseller, and has been translated into 20 languages. He co-authored Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy. Both The Prize and The Commanding Heights were made into television series for PBS and BBC.
Dr. Yergin served on the secretary of energy advisory board under four presidents. He is a member of the board of the Council on Foreign Relations; a senior trustee of the Brookings Institution; and a member of the Dallas Federal Reserve’s Energy Advisory Council, the government of India energy think tank, and the World Economic Forum’s energy governors.
Dr. Yergin received a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Prime Minister of India, and the U.S. Energy Award. He received the Charles Percy Award for Public Service from the Alliance to Save Energy and an award for outstanding contributions to energy economics and its literature by the International Association for Energy Economics.
Dr. Yergin holds a BA from Yale University and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Marshall scholar.
