Interim Director of Research and Adjunct Senior Research Scholar
Kevin Brennan is Interim Director of Research and Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. His work focuses on the geopolitics, economics, and market dynamics of the energy transition, with particular attention to how energy systems, global markets, and economic statecraft shape long-term investment, competitiveness, and resilience. In this role, he helps guide the Center’s research agenda and supports scholars across policy, markets, and geopolitics.
Prior to joining CGEP full time, Kevin spent more than two decades at Bridgewater Associates, where he served in senior leadership roles spanning research, investment systems, commodities and geopolitics, and technology. Most recently, he was Head of Commodities and Geopolitics Research and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Earlier roles included nearly a decade as Director of Investment Systems, more than five years as Co-Director of Research, and a year as Co-Head of Technology. He was a Partner at the firm and a regular contributor to Bridgewater’s Daily Observations.
Earlier in his career, Kevin worked as an actuary at the Equitable, earning Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries, and later as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Mathematics and Economics from Binghamton University.
Kevin serves on the National Advisory Board of the Leadership Now Project and is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Finance Leaders Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
