The following color-coded campus status levels have been developed to simplify communication regarding the current circumstances on and around the Morningside campus. The campus status level is based upon the potential disruption to our academic mission and/or campus operations. The status level will be adjusted up or down to reflect then-current circumstances, including information received from law enforcement and other sources regarding potential events that could affect Columbia. Please join the Center on Global Energy Policy for a roundtable discussion with Diego Mesa Puyo, Minister of Mines and Energy, Colombia.
Minister Mesa will discuss Colombia’s energy transition and climate policy goals with Columbia University students and faculty. Following introductions, we will move into an open conversation. Light refreshments will be provided.
Biography
Minister of Energy of Colombia Diego Mesa is a Globally-minded energy and extractive industries leader with over 15 years of experience in management and advisory roles in government, multilateral, and the private sector. He has been Colombia’s Minister of Energy since 2020. Before that he was Colombia’s Deputy Energy Minister between 2018 and 2020, where he co-led the design and implementation of the country’s energy transformation policy, including increasing the share of variable renewable energy from 1% to 12% of the power generation matrix. Before joining the Colombian government, he spent 6 years at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) where he led technical assistance missions to advise African, Asian, European, Latin American and Middle Eastern countries on fiscal issues for extractive industries. Prior to the IMF, he spent 4 years as a Manager and Senior Economist in the Consulting and Deals Practice of PriceWaterhouseCooper (PwC) in Canada. The Minister holds an M.A. in Economics from McGill University and is a CFA®️ chart holder since 2012.
