Past Event

9:30 am - 11:00 am

Join the Center on Global Energy Policy for a presentation of the International Energy Agency’s report “Oil 2019 – Analysis and Forecasts to 2024” with Neil Atkinson, IEA’s Head of Oil Industry & Markets Division. Oil 2019 is the IEA’s annual five-year forecast of global oil demand, supply refining, and trade. Following his presentation, Mr. Atkinson will join a panel discussion with Louise Burke, President of the New York Energy Forum and Vice President of Argus Media, and Rachel Ziemba, Adjunct Senior Fellow, Energy, Economics, & Security Program at the Center for a New American Security, moderated by Katherine Spector, CGEP Research Scholar. Oil 2019, the International Energy Agency’s annual outlook for global oil markets, examines the key issues in demand, supply, refining and trade to 2024. This year, the report includes the following: • A changed supply picture led by the rise of the United States in world markets thanks to rapidly-growing shale oil production, and its transformation into a net exporter of crude oil and products. • Supply growth in countries such as Brazil, Canada, Norway and Guyana; and falling capacity for the OPEC producers. • Demand growth underpinned by China and India and by the growing importance of petrochemicals as the industry invests to meet rising consumer demand. • A detailed analysis of the implications of the International Maritime Organisation’s new marine fuel specifications. • Growing excess capacity in the refining industry and the changing patterns of global oil trade. — Guests unable to attend in person can view a livestream of the event at This event is open to press. Media should register for this event using the link above. Media inquiries or requests for interviews should be directed to Artealia Gilliard ([email protected]).
