Global gas markets are set to undergo major changes by the end of the decade, with the coming wave of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity poised to profoundly transform market dynamics. This unprecedented expansion of LNG supply is expected to improve gas supply security and make natural gas more affordable – particularly in emerging, price-sensitive import markets.
The 2025 edition of the International Energy Agency’s Medium-Term Gas Market Report examines this transformation and its implications, offering a comprehensive overview of potential supply, demand and trade trends in global natural gas markets for the coming years. The report also features a detailed assessment of gas supply security and contracting trends, a special spotlight on carbon capture and storage (CCUS) applications along the LNG value chain, and a medium-term outlook for low-carbon gases, including biomethane, low-emissions hydrogen, and e-methane.
