The campus status level is based upon the potential disruption to our academic mission and/or campus operations. The status level will be adjusted up or down to reflect then-current circumstances, including information received from law enforcement and other sources regarding potential events that could affect Columbia. Natural gas has been seen by many as playing a strategic role in the clean energy transition – a means to reduce both local air pollution and coal-associated carbon emissions, a means of quick-ramping dispatchable power, a plentiful, economically-attractive fuel. Concerns about methane emissions and the overall carbon budget have called into question the future for gas. Will demand for gas recover and grow around the globe or only in certain emerging economies? Will natural gas be supplanted by renewable gases from biomethane or hydrogen (blue or green)? IEA’s Global Gas Security Review (GGSR) provides a quantitative assessment of contracting trends, supply flexibility, buyer and seller behaviour, and the evolution of global LNG trade. This year’s review will be complemented with an update of the IEA’s Global Gas Market Outlook with particular focus on the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on global gas markets in 2020 and 2021. Join the Center on Global Energy Policy and the Aspen Institute for a presentation of the report’s key findings by Keisuke Sadamori, Director, Energy Markets and Security, IEA. Following his presentation, he will be joined by Lisa Alexander, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer, Sempra Energy; Poppy Kalesi, Director of Global Energy, Environmental Defense Fund; and Jérôme Schmitt, Chairman of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative Executive Committee, for a discussion moderated by Erin Blanton, CGEP Senior Research Scholar. — This webinar will be hosted via Zoom.
