Women in Energy Site Visit: Indian Point Energy Center

Meet at SIPA at 7:00am. We will depart no later than 7:15am. Duration: 7.5 hours (excluding travel) Indian Point Energy Center Buchanan, NY 10511 Transportation will be provided. CGEP’s Women in Energy and SIPA’s Energy & Environment concentration are organizing a student-only field trip to the Indian Point Energy Center, a nuclear power plant station located in Buchanan, New York. This is an unique opportunity to visit the facility and to gain an understanding of a nuclear power plant’s operations.  Registration spots are extremely limited. Please register only if you can commit to attending the site visit. The final list of attendee must be sent to Indian Point well ahead of the visit therefore you will be asked to confirm your attendance by April 19.  Please note the following safety guidelines from Indian Point: All visitors will need a government issued, photo ID with them the day of the visit.  Driver’s license is preferred. Each visitor needs to make sure that the address on the form matches the one on the ID. Cameras and photo capable electronics such as cell phones or blackberries are not permitted in the plant.   • Indian Point has stringent safety requirements that all tour participants must observe. Please wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes of sturdy construction – no sandals, moccasins, clogs, or cloth athletic/recreational shoes. High heels must be a minimum of 2” in diameter and not more than 4” in height. DO NOT WEAR SNEAKERS. Sandals and open-toed and open-backed shoes are not permitted for safety reasons.   • Tour participants must be fully mobile.  Anyone with a cast, wheelchair or crutches may not tour the plant.   • Minimum clothing requirements are long pants and short-sleeved shirts that cover the shoulders. They recommend cotton or natural fiber clothing. You will be issued safety equipment for your tour at the facility.   • Security procedures require that all head coverings be completely removed during passage through security monitoring stations.  This includes, but is not limited to, hats, scarves, shawls, and apparel worn for religious reasons. Anyone who cannot completely uncover their head, will not be permitted to visit.    • Any non citizens will be required to produce documentation showing that they are in this country legally.
