Rania A. Al-Mashat brings over 25 years of international experience in macroeconomic policy, sustainable development, international cooperation, climate finance, and central banking. She served for eight consecutive years (2018–2026) as a Minister in the Egyptian Cabinet across Tourism, International Cooperation, and Planning, Economic Development & International Cooperation. Her previous roles include Advisor to the Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund and Sub-Governor for Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Egypt.
She has played a leading role in advancing multilateral partnerships to support economic stability, inclusive growth, and climate action. In this capacity, she led national efforts to mobilize large-scale development finance, strengthen collaboration with international institutions, and enhance private sector participation in sustainable development. She also spearheaded key initiatives shaping Egypt’s economic development model, integrating structural reform with human development and social impact.
Al-Mashat has contributed extensively to thought leadership in economic policy and development, including authoring “Stakeholder Engagement Through Economic Diplomacy” and contributing to publications by the International Monetary Fund. She serves on several international advisory councils and alliances and has represented Egypt in major global financial institutions, reflecting her strong global engagement and influence.
She has received multiple international recognitions for her leadership and impact. She holds a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Maryland and a BA from the American University in Cairo.
