Student Roundtable with Santiago Martínez and Carolina Ocampo-Maya

This roundtable is open only to currently-enrolled Columbia University students and faculty.

Please join the Center on Global Energy Policy for a roundtable discussion with Santiago Martínez, Head of Sustainability and Decarbonization, and Carolina Ocampo-Maya, Head of Corporate Responsibility, of Ecopetrol, Colombia’s state-controlled energy company with oil and gas operations.

Santiago Martínez and Carolina Ocampo-Maya will discuss Ecopetrol’s sustainability and decarbonization efforts and its role in Colombia’s energy transition.

About the Speakers

Santiago Martínez heads Sustainability and Decarbonization at Ecopetrol. He previously led similar efforts during Colombia’s accession process to the OECD, as Head of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of the Environment in Colombia. He is currently a Board Member at the Colombian Association of Carbon Offsets, an Officer o the Climate Change Group at Ipieca and one of 34 members of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures – TNFD. He holds an MBA from the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin and a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M) from the University of Pennsylvania.

Carolina Ocampo-Maya currently heads Corporate Responsibility at Ecopetrol. She has over 17 years of sustainability and ESG expertise, in multiple industries that include agroindustry, banking, food and beverages, mining, and oil and gas and energy, in various countries in Latin America. Carolina has also experience as Chairwoman and member of the board of directors of organizations in the health, education, and non-profit sectors, with annual budgets of up to USD $50 million. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with an B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, has an MBA from Icesi (Colombia) and Tulane University, and a Master of Public Administration in Development Practice from Columbia University.

Ecopetrol S.A. is a state-controlled energy company with oil and gas operations, with the Colombian State holding an 88.45% share. In December 2021, the Board of Directors approved Ecopetrol Group’s 2040 Strategy “Energy that Transforms” with a TESG pillar (Technology, environment, social, and governance), which aims to ensure operation decarbonization, and leverage on technology, innovation, and human talent to uphold competitive returns.
