Catarina Vidotto Caricati is a Research Assistant at CGEP and an MPA in Development Practice candidate at Columbia SIPA (expected graduation May 2023), focusing on sustainability finance. She was on the board of the student-led Columbia Impact Investing Initiative, is a member of the founding team of the Brazil Climate Summit, and is the recipient of the Lemann Innovation Fellowship for her research on green bonds. Her work is primarily on ESG, finance, and decarbonization of the oil sector (technology investments, biofuels). Previously, she was a consultant for Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where she worked with companies across the energy sector. She has also worked in climate finance in New York.
National oil companies (NOCs) produce about half of the world’s oil and own the bulk of oil and gas reserves. They are also large issuers of bonds held by international financial institutions. Their ESG risks should be a matter of great concern.
