Andrew Gumbiner is the Senior Director for Communications and Policy Strategy at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP).
Andrew has worked for more than decade as a spokesman and public affairs strategist for CEOs of global industrial companies, U.S. cabinet secretaries and senior administration officials in the Obama administration and for Democrats on Capitol Hill.
Before his current role at CGEP, Andrew founded and operated AJG Strategies, LLC – a public affairs consultancy based in Washington, D.C. focused on advising energy sector and industrial cybersecurity clients on strategic communications and public policy issues. He was also a non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center focused on securing the energy transition from cyberthreats. Prior to starting his firm in 2019, Andrew was a spokesman for Siemens USA, managing public affairs for the company’s energy and cybersecurity business and serving as an advisor to the U.S. CEO.
Andrew served in the Obama administration as the press secretary and spokesman at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and aid to Secretary Moniz. In Congress, he was a communications director in the U.S. House of Representatives. Andrew started his career as the spokesman and head of communications for DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency Energy (ARPA-E) and as a press aide in the House Democratic Caucus.
Andrew received his B.A. from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY and his M.A. from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife Karen and collie Penny.
