Bill Brown

CEO, New Waters Capital

Biography

Bill Brown is CEO of New Waters Compute Centers, Inc., harnessing AI ComputeCenters™ to liberate cleantech from its growth-limiting commodity roots. He also leads New Waters Capital LP, which manages a low-volatility, market-neutral quant strategy targeting Sortino ratios of 3.5. Mr Brown is a strategic advisor to the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Mr Brown is founder of both NET Power and 8 Rivers Capital, serving as CEO of each for over a decade. Under his leadership, both companies achieved unicorn status, a rare feat in the cleantech industry. NET Power, listed on the NYSE in 2023, produces clean electricity from natural gas while capturing 100% of the carbon dioxide, while 8 Rivers commercializes technologies in power, hydrogen, and CO₂capture. Under Mr Brown’s guidance, 8 Rivers created over 3,000 patents, with Bill as primary inventor or co-inventor on many, including the core technology of NET Power. In 2023, SK Group bought a majority of 8 Rivers.

Previously, Mr Brown was a professor at Duke and had a significant career on Wall Street with Morgan Stanley, AIG, and Goldman Sachs, as well as a partner at the multinational law firm Sidley Austin. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees from MIT and a JD from Duke Law.
