Meet Our Experts

Jason Bordoff, Founding Director

  • Former Special Assistant to President Barack Obama and Senior Director for Energy and Climate Change on the Staff of the National Security Council 
  • Bordoff's research and policy interests lie at the intersection of economics, energy, environment, and national security 

Anne-Sophie Corbeau, Global Research Scholar

  • Previously head of gas analysis at BP, where she was responsible for advising the Leadership Team on gas market developments and long term pricing assumptions
  • With over 20 years of experience in the energy industry, her research focuses on hydrogren and natural gas
     

Edward Fishman, Non-Resident Fellow

  • From 2015-2017, Fishman served at the U.S. Department of State as a member of the Secretary’s Policy Planning Staff. In that role,  Fishman advised Secretary of State John Kerry on Europe and Eurasia and led the staff’s work on economic sanctions, long-range strategic planning, and international order and norms. 
  • An expert on sanctions and the evolving ways states use economic power to advance their foreign policy interests

Jonathan Elkind, Senior Research Scholar

  • From 2009 to 2017, Elkind worked on international energy and climate issues at the US Department of Energy, helping to coordinate energy policy in the Obama Administration and leading climate and energy programs with key global partners. He departed as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs.
  • Expert on energy, environment, and economic issues in post-Soviet nations 

Richard Nephew, Senior Research Scholar 

  • Most recently the deputy special envoy for Iran in the Biden-Harris administration. He previously served as Principal Deputy Coordinator for Sanctions Policy at the Department of State
  • Expert on the use of sanctions for deterrence and impact
